About
History The Governorate Geography: Shebin El Kom city considered the first city in El Monofeya province as there are the main administrations, the governmental authorities. Also, there are the main administration of El Monofeya University and the majority of colleges which ascribes to the university, the headquarters of the mayor. For so it is a great honor to be the first city and the capital of the province Monofeya is triangle-like Governorate, situated in the middle of the River Nile Delta between the 2 branches of the River Nile - Rashid and Demietta -, its head in the south and its base in the north. It expands to the west of Rashid branch where the Sadat city is located. It is lies on 2 main roads connecting Cairo & Alexandria– the Desert Road to the west & the Agricultural Road to the east of the governorate.
Location & Environment The total area: 2554 KM2 The population: 3 million (in 2001) the population of the rural areas represents 80% The Capital: Shebin El- Koom, 72 Km north to Cairo. Governorate Day: 13th of June annually
Climate In summer: Fair to hot, temperature ranges between 29-30 degrees C, 20-30 % humidity, you can wear light cotton clothes. In winter: Cold to fair, rainy, foggy only in morning, temperature ranges between 8-20 degrees C, you can wear heavy wool clothes.

Terms & Duration To have the certificate you should spend 5 days for 3 weeks working, 5 hours a day.

Required Equipments - Please bring your white coat and stethoscope also a reflex hammer for neurology clerkships. - Health insurance is required (A copy shall be attached with the application documents, or sent to NEO/LEO before arrival for the clerkship). - Please bring your international students ID (ISIC) it is of great benefit especially in social programs

Rechargeable cards are in either 50 – 100 -200 pounds

Where to Go & What to Visit There are many tourist places in Shebin El Kom like:
Egypt is a country of tourism we have a lot of places to go in the weekends which started from the Wednesday afternoon till Saturday morning so we can spend about 3 days in our weekends visiting & get around all Egypt. Our social program outside Monofeya can be in Cairo, Alexandria, Sharm al-shekh, Luxur, Aswan, Hurgada, Siwa…also you can arrange to add or remove with LEO
Transportation
Transportation to the Dormitory - Menoufiya has neither airports nor ports, so, it's preferable to make your destination: Cairo International Airport Then you can take the bus or pick a taxi (50 L.E) to Ramsis square from where you can either:
1- Take a train (15 L.E) to Quesna from the Railway station then a taxi (15 L.E) to Shebin El-Koom. 2- Take an air-conditioned bus (4 L.E) to Shebin El-Koom directly from the other side of the Railway "Ahmed Helmy square" beside the Fire Station.
- Or direct Taxi from Cairo airport to Shebin El-Koom (150-200 L.E)
Important Information Currency: The currency of Egypt is called the Pound (pl. Pounds). Pound banknotes are issued in the following denominations: 0.25, 0.50, 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 Pounds. Smaller values are issued as coins (piaster’s) with 1 Pound = 100 Piaster’s.
Currency exchange facilities are available in most banks, hotels and airports and operate normal business hours.
Credit cards are accepted at most restaurants and shops, the most widely used being MasterCard, Visa and American Express.

Certification: We will give you your certificate on the last day of your clerkship or on your day of departure and it will be signed and stamped by the supervisor doctor and the LEO.
Passport & VISA: Visitors are required to be in possession of a valid passport. Entry visas may be obtained from Egyptian Diplomatic and Consular Missions Abroad.
It is, however, possible for most visitors to obtain an entry visa at any of the Major Ports of Entry while those from the following countries are required to be in possession of a pre-arrival visa: Afghanistan, Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Iran, Israel, Lebanon, Macedonia, Malaysia, Moldavia, Morocco, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Russia, Serbia & Montenegro, Slovenia, Thailand, Tunisia, Ukraine and all African countries.
